conditional sentence

CONDITIONAL SENTENCE

Conditional sentence merupakan kalimat pengandaian yang dapat kita bagi dalam tiga bentuk, yaitu:

1. future conditional
2. present conditional
3. past conditional

Future Conditional

merupakan bentuk pengandaian yang masih mungkin terjadi untuk masa mendatang apabila syaratnya dapat terpenuhi

pola: S + will / can + inf + if + S + V1

Example:

I will come to Ani’s party if she invites me

Means: perhaps I come to ani’s party

It is possible that Ani invites me

Present Conditional

Merupakan bentuk pengandaian yang tidak mungkin terjadi untuk masa sekarang karena syaratnya tidak dapat terpenuhi atau berlawanan dengan fakta keadaan yang sebenarnya.

Pola: S + would / could + inf + S + V2 / were

Example:

1. I would come to Udin’s party if she invited me

Means: Udin doesn’t invite me

2. If he were here right now, he would help us

Means: he is not here right now

3. If he had time, I could visit you more often

Means: I can’t visit you more often

4. If he didn’t come today, we would be very upset

Means: fortunately he comes

Past Conditional

Merupakan bentuk pengandaian yang tidak mungkin terjadi untuk masa lampau karena syaratnya tidak terpenuhi atau berlawanan fakta dengan keadaan yang sebenarnya

Pola: S + would + / could + V3 + if + S + had + V3

Example:

1. If you had told me about the problem, I would have helped you

Means: you didn’t tell me the problem

2. I wouldn’t have broken my arm if I hadn’t slipped on the ice

Means: I slipped on the ice, I broke my arm
